After first loss of season, U23s look to regain momentum on Friday against FC Jax
ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando City U23s look to get back to their winning ways this Friday, June 8, against fellow Southeast Division club FC Jax Destroyers at the Seminole Soccer Complex in Sanford, Fla. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Orlando is preparing to face the Destroyers after suffering a disappointing 4-2 loss to the Ocala Stampede on Saturday. The Stampede scored three goals in the second half to hand the Lions their first defeat of the 2012 regular season.

Orlando City U23s Head Coach Joe Avallone commented on his team’s mentality and what the U23s have worked on the last week in practice.

“You find your character sometimes when things are down, when you lose,” said Avallone. “That’s when you find yourself a little. We had a great few days of practice, so we will see what these boys are made of. ”

FC Jax Destroyers are based out of Jacksonville, Fla. Along with a PDL team, the club also fields a W-League squad. The PDL team is led by Head Coach Aidan Davison, who made over 400 senior appearances as a goalkeeper in clubs around Europe, including in the English Premier League with the Bolton Wanderers and Bradford City.

The Destroyers have gotten off to a rough start in 2012, losing four out of their first five matches. However, Jax earned their first point of the season Sunday in a 0-0 draw against the Panama City Beach Pirates, giving the club confidence heading into Friday’s match. The team is led by Midfilder Mitchell McPike, who has two goals and an assist so far in the 2012 season.
