The Morning Roar: We want revengeMatch-up against FC Dallas carries weight for Orlando City players & staff
Last year, heading into the Third Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, Orlando City was facing a murderous schedule. It started with the opening match of the USOC, played at UCF. The match was delayed for nearly two hours because of a torrential downpour and lightning storm. Four days later City played its first national TV game before beginning a marathon road stretch that saw the team spend less than 48 hours in Orlando over the next 10 days. A bus trip to and from Charleston led to flights to Antigua for the two game series, then over to Dallas before heading North to Pittsburgh and Rochester. In total, Orlando City would play a staggering six matches in two weeks. More amazing was City went 4-1-1 in that stretch. The lone loss came to FC Dallas in heartbreaking fashion. Still, the loss - Orlando City's second to FC Dallas in 2011 - was not what sticks in our minds. Ahead of the match, we requested that the game be moved from Tuesday, June 28, to Wednesday, June 29. This was to give us a day to travel to Dallas from Antigua and recooperate. FC Dallas did not grant the request. It still bugs us. During the Supporters Summit, Orlando City President Phil Rawlins said "Dallas is about as close to my heart as Tampa (FC Tampa Bay)." Now you know why. Tonight we go looking for revenge. A win be a big step towards Orlando City making the final of this year's Disney Pro Soccer Classic, and should put at least put us in the tournament's consolation game. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. For tickets, visit www.ticketmaster.com. If you can't make it out to Disney, you can watch the match online in the Game Center. |
