Heath Explains Roster Moves
Orlando City Head Coach Adrian Heath has made tough decisions this past weekOrlando City Head Coach Adrian Heath made a couple tough decisions this past week in regards to the pro team roster. The one that has been the most talked about and will continue to remain a storyline for the rest of the 2012 season is the loan of Forward Max Griffin to the LA Blues in exchange for Forward George Davis IV.
Heath reflected on his decision to send last seasons top goal scorer to rival LA for the rest of the season.
Its never easy when you lose somebody like Max, whos been with us for a long time, Heath said. I looked at our squad and determined that Dennis Chin and Matt Luzunaris are the goal scorers for us right now. Max has had a difficult season with his injuries. I think its a better situation for him to be in LA and get playing time over there.
Coming to Orlando is a player Heaths had his eyes on for a long time, George Davis IV. Davis was a stand-out rookie in the USL PRO last season, scoring seven goals for the Dayton Dutch Lions. When you play teams, you go back through the footage and see players who were causing you trouble. George played well against us last year in Dayton, along with the match in May with the Blues. I thought he was one of their best offensive players."
Davis will be available on Saturday as the Lions square off against second place Rochester Rhinos at the Citrus Bowl. The addition of the former Blues forward marks the third roster move in the last few weeks for the Lions, including the loan of Jean Alexandre from Major League Soccers San Jose Earthquakes along with the signing of Rodrigo Lopez from the PDLs Ventura County.
With all the shakeup, Heath is confident his club is ready to finish out the regular season on a high note.
Its all about moving forward from here, Heath said. We want to win the league. Its in our hands at this point.
